7 Quick SEO Wins Any Small Business Can Make This Week
Most small business websites don’t need a big budget to start getting more traffic from Google. They need a handful of basics done properly. Here are seven quick wins you can work through this week, most of them in under an hour each.
1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
If customers search for your service near them, your Google Business Profile is often the first thing they see, even before your website. Make sure your business name, address, phone number, hours, categories and service areas are complete and accurate. Add real photos of your work, your team and your location, and post an update at least once a month.
2. Give every page a clear, specific title
Your page title is the blue headline people click in Google. “Home” or “Services” tells Google nothing. Use titles that say what you do and who it’s for, such as “Carpet Cleaning in Brooklyn | Same-Week Appointments”. Keep them under about 60 characters so they don’t get cut off.
3. Write a meta description that earns the click
The short text under your title in search results is your sales pitch. Summarise the page in one or two sentences, mention a benefit, and end with a reason to click, like a free quote or fast response time.
4. Make your contact details impossible to miss
Put your phone number and a clear call to action at the top of every page, and make the phone number tappable on mobile. Use exactly the same business name, address and phone number on your website, your Google Business Profile and any directories you’re listed in. Consistency helps Google trust your business details.
5. Build one page per service
A single “Services” page listing everything you do is hard to rank. Give each main service its own page that explains what’s included, who it’s for, common questions and how to book. Each page is a new chance to show up for a specific search.
6. Speed up your site
Slow pages lose visitors, especially on phones. Compress large images before uploading them, remove plugins you don’t use, and test your pages with Google’s free PageSpeed Insights tool. Fix the biggest issues it flags first.
7. Ask happy customers for reviews
Reviews influence both rankings and whether people choose you. After a job goes well, send a short message with a direct link to your Google review page. Reply to every review, good or bad. It shows future customers that you care.
